Claiming an upset in Mississippi for the Democrat Party, Travis Childers beat Republican Greg Davis in a special election to fill the voided seat of Republican Roger Wicker, expanding the Democrat majority in the House to 236-199.

Democrats are backing up the assertion that they remain on the offensive in this election year, citing the past 7 years of bashing Republicans and President Bush endlessly.

What Democrats, in their glee neglect to say is they won this one through the usual Democrat Dirty Tricks, pulling out any sleazy despicable trick they could to win. They succeeded.

On the eve of this special election, National Democrats distributed flier’s tying the Republican candidate in the race to the Ku Klux Klan, a charge impossible to refute in the last minutes of the election.

Republicans immediately decried the Democrat Dirty Trick as desperate and said the charges are untrue, but the damage was done, Davis lost by 6 percentage points, with 90% of precincts reporting.

Democrat Childers was leading Davis 49-46 just weeks ago, why the need for such dirty tricks?

The flier claimed that Davis “wanted to honor the founder of the KKK with a statue in the town of Southaven,” where Davis serves as mayor. “Davis supported moving the statue of the founder of the Ku Klux Klan and first Grand Wizard from Memphis to Southaven after civil rights leaders tried to have it taken down,” says the flier.

Davis said through Campaign spokesman Ted Prill, “the flier is a complete falsehood and a lie.” Prill maintained that Davis never said that he would have taken the Forrest statue from Memphis, where it had become controversial. He did express interest in accepting a statue of Confederate President Jefferson Davis, who never had any links to the Ku Klux Klan.

While Republicans blasted this latest playing of he race card and dirty trick from Democrats, Democrats stood by their charge, knowing it could not be refuted in time to make any difference.

One wonders why the Democrats would make this charge after they have defended a member of their own party who has held office for the last 49 years and spent World War Two and after as a Grand Kleagle in West Virginia’s Ku Klux Klan?

John McCain claims he will run a “clean campaign,” not resorting to any dirty tricks or mudslinging. Obviously, he doesn’t have a clue what his former Senate partners and “friends’ will have in store for him in their quest for ultimate power at any cost over the country.

Will the spineless Republican stand up against these “dirty tricks?”

Damned if you do, damned if you don’t. If he starts to run a dirty campaign, he will be lambasted for that as well.

It’s going to get down and dirty and anyone who doesn’t vote for Obama is going to be called a racist.. which I find tremendously offensive.

It’s going to get ugly.

Received in my throw away email today, from the DCCC:

”We did it! Thanks to you, Democratic Congressman-Elect Travis Childers is coming to Washington. His stunning victory — our third straight win in a ruby-red district — has sent the Republicans reeling yet again. We are now 3-for-3!

There is no way for the GOP to spin this. They brought in Dick Cheney and their shadowy groups. We brought in YOU. And the results speak for themselves.

Even Dick Cheney, with all of his Halliburton-backed Big Oil money was no match for the nationwide grassroots movement for change that you are helping to lead. One-by-one you are painting America blue this year.

Here is the scorecard for 2008 so far:

Illinois’ 14th District, the seat represented by the former Republican House Speaker Dennis Hastert for more than 20 years — won by Democratic Congressman Bill Foster.
Louisiana’s 6th District, a seat that the Republicans held for the past three decades — won by Democratic Congressman Don Cazayoux.
Mississippi’s 1st District, a seat that George Bush won by more than 60% in 2000 and 2004 — won by Democratic Congressman-Elect Travis Childers.
Read more about Travis’ victory in Mississippi and the other special elections this cycle

In race-after-race, it’s becoming clearer that the Republicans’ worst nightmare this year is YOU. Now it’s on to November.”

Not one mention of the dirty trick they played, which they most likely did not need to do.

This campaign will only get uglier from those who preach they are the ”tolerant” ones.

To me, it reflects back on the tactic employed by the Clintons and learned at the knee of Saul Alinsky, The Politics of Personal Destruction.

It isn’t enough to defeat your opponent, you must destroy them. Very reminiscent of the Bolsheviks that took over Russia to eventually form the Soviet Union.
